This ad in the Jewish Daily News of 30 November 1916 published out of New York has my wee brain spinning – and not only due to the works I can read and those I cannot read. I am starting to think “cream” is a nugget of a folk tale, an indigenous memory that keeps appearing generation after generation from, as Gary proposed, the later 1700s to today in the northeastern US for no other reason than its useful pleasantness.
Gotta think about this.
And a pre-justification for ‘craft’s’ prefixing “imperial” to beers other than Russian darks.
Perhaps but Imperial exists in the New York brewing lexicon at least back to the 1830s.
